Janine Collins was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana where she lived on Audubon Park with her parents, Dr. Jason Collins, physician, and Malane White Collins, noted classical pianist and visual artist. The natural beauty of the park surrounded by the historically rich architecture greatly influenced Janine's artistic choices throughout her educational years.
Janine studied architecture, art history, drawing and painting at Tulane University, but her particular focus on portraiture did not evolve until years later after attending a Tulane Medical School unveiling of an honorary portrait of her father, Dr. Collins, a moment that left Janine with the inspiration to begin exploring portraiture.
Her portrait work, over three hundred pieces in watercolor, colored pencil, and oil, spanning more than thirty five years, can be found in private and public collections throughout the United States. Janine resides in Lafayette and additionally enjoys teaching private art classes to adults and exploring abstract painting.
